Famous People - Argentina

This topic made me think a lot about the kind of argentinians that are well known around the world, and I think that most of them are sportsmen.

I might say that Diego Maradona is one of the most known football (a.k.a. soccer) players out there, for the right and the wrong reasons... He was, and is to a certain degree, something out of this world inside a football field, but it was outside of it that he made some mistakes. His life is and allways will be a delicate topic to touch with an argentinian, as most of us see him as a God (if you want to have a good laugh, check this out).

There are a lot of other great sportsmen (and women), but I could write forever about them, so I will list a few of them: Guillermo Vilas (tennis player), Gabriela Sabatini (tennis player), Froilán Gonzalez (F1 driver, he won Ferrari's first GP), Manuel Fangio (F1 driver, 5 championships with 4 different teams), Manu Ginobili (NBA player), and a ton of other people...

The second largest group of famous people might be the musicians. I might risk saying that Soda Stereo is one of the most known argentinian bands, and now Gustavo Cerati continues to succeed almost everywhere. Other well know musicians are Carlos Gardel (THE tango legend), Pappo, Charly Garcia, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Divididos, Rata Blanca and Fito Paez. If you want to listen to great music, listen to Babasonicos, they are, for me, one of the best bands around (their live performances are as great as the Smashing Pumpkins ones...).

We are also known for some "not so great" facts, as having 5 different presidents in less than 10 days... but, as any other politician, they don't even deserve to be mentioned here...

I should not end this post without mentioning some great people, like Bernardo Houssay, Cesar Milstein and Luis Leloir. They all won three Nobel prices (argentina has won 5 in total).

My Dear, I think that after Jesus, the second most world-wide known and spreaded face is that one belonging to Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, 'Che'. Correct me if I'm wrong...
